Event Details

Many refer to the ‘50s as a time in which everyone lived happily in suburbia.  In reality, there were many responses to the same ideas, from suburbanization and affluence to McCarthyism.  Engage Smithsonian American History Scholar, Charlie McGovern in a discussion about the fear and optimism that characterized the ‘50s and continues to transcend time.  Charlie McGovern will be signing copies of his new book, Sold American:  Consumption, and Citizenship, 1890-1945 following the program
